Jim, I live on Amherst street in Richmond Virginia.

First 2 meter antenna I. Bought in 1999 was MFJ on the house. Shaped like a T, bottom of the T had a u clamp to hook to pipe. The top part of T was 2 rods with ceramic insulators. I have a 2&6 meter magnet mount MFJ on car now. I’ll miss their products.

Thank god I ordered an input board for a ameritron amp that had been sitting here since last sept. Something told me to check & was told when I called she was making the last batch of boards as we speak. He said I’ll ask if she will make one for you brb, he returned & said she will. I was lucky because now it’s over. Someone stuck a friend of mine @ a ham fest for $900 for a bad amp. I got it for $100 & bought board for $197 with shipping & $248 for a quad of 572b. So I have 5 bills in it but the seller should have his A/B. I hope someone buys MFJ because there will be no more high gain, mirage, among other products. 73s

We are being killed by contests on most every weekend, high power stations make it impossible for new hams and those who just want to ragchew. Digital modes operated by computers make the term control operator a joke. Many times there is no control Operator present, just the computer. 7:52

SO many radios out there that have spurious noise. They are interfering with EVERYTHING out there. I heard that it is the reason the door fell off of that Boeing airliner. It was also responsible for that thing in Gaza. Please folks ... we don't need any more tragedies !! How many have to die before they outlaw Baofengs?

I just bought a $30 Quansheng UV-K6 knowing that its output is not real clean. There are lots of examples of these that have been tested on UA-cam, and I don't think they are any cleaner than the cheap ones you tested here. I never push the PTT button except into a dummy load. With modified firmware, I use it as a scanner primarily on the aviation band 108-136mhz, but also for use to listen to other radios I might be testing. I will be looking for a cleaner HT to replace the one that was destroyed while moving to my retirement house about a year ago. Thanks for the video. Mark, KE6BB

YES! I couldn't agree more. I've been a ham since 1978, but have never needed a ground rod. I have always made sure all of my equipment is bonded together, but like you, no ground rod. I have only had one small RF "burn" on my lips when I hooked a friend's Swan 350 to my antenna and checked it out only to get zapped in the lips by the metal microphone screen. A bonding strap fixed that. I began questioning the need for RF grounding many years ago when I started operating portable with no ground. Now all my equipment, and any I bring into the shack use is RF bonded together with straps. My safety grounds are the ground prongs on the equipment AC plugs, but I utilize a few ferrites here and there to RF isolate the AC equipment power supplies from the house wiring. They have almost zero impedance at AC, but significant impedance at RF. My lightning ground consists of completely disconnecting all antennas at the entry to the house and keeping the disconnected feedlines well away from the house. I have considered sinking a ground rod well away from the house where I could attach all the antenna lead-in's to that, but the current setup works so well that it hasn't seemed all that important. I have no towers or beams, and the area I live in almost never gets lightning. Kristin McIntyre, K6WX gave a pretty good presentation at this year's ARRL convention which covers the subject much as you did. I watched this again. 1. We have the transmitter current flowing through the inner conductor and the outer conductor. We have common mode currents flowing on the outside of the outer conductor where we know the RF current normally flows. Where then do the differential mode currents flow? 2. I do antenna modeling on EZNEC. Lewallen admits that there's no reference to CMC in the help directory? He has an article written about CMC that discusses and contrasts the importance of CMC. If it's important and bad, why are these currents not utilized on the modeling software? 3. Some people say CMC is extra currents and if that's the case, they are energy generated for free from nothing. Perpetual motion. Others say it's from the power we have used from the transmitter. In that case, why do we choke those currents rather than matching them to the antenna so they aren't attenuated out and lost as heat? If the CMCs are excess energy added from nothing, we wouldn't want to add that to the currents to the antenna because we could get energy runaway and melt down the universe. But if these are added currents in addition to the currents going from the transmitter, someone could win a Nobel prize for energy on that. Make millions on the patent alone. N9XR

I dont think the issues are only TX, I've got a number of cheap chinese HTs, and a couple of decades old Kenwood TK 2160 2Meter HTs On RX the old kenwood HTs are clearer and more defined on audio from my local repeater.
